“At that time Lewis was very much interested in automobile mechanics, but when an unknown pianist called Al came up from St. Louis, bringing the number ‘The Fives’ to Chicago, he returned to the piano. “So I told Al, I gotta learn how to play that stuff; let’s get together.” In 1924 the Lewis family moved to Louisville, Kentucky, the birthplace of Lewis’s mother, and when they returned some time later, the Lewis family had split….”
